Marvel Avengers

Lego Marvel Avengers Review

While the Lego Marvel Avengers Super Heroes allowed us a tour of the much talked about Marvel comic universe, the Lego Marvel Avengers took another path, focusing on the cinematic universe, and particularly on the several films from the Avengers Assemble to the Avengers: Age of Ultron. These two films are what form what the backbone of the campaign is. There is a glimpse of Captain America: The First Avenger as well, and various other chapters of the Iron Man 3, Thor: (The Dark World) as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Obviously, that means quite a limitation on the number of Marvel heroes through the campaign, and this is something that may upset those who liked the broader range of the Lego Marvel superheroes. But then, it is hard to complain given the chapters are incredibly fantastic, while mining the best of the best sequences from the films, the producers found a way to incorporate the vibrant comedy scenes from the famous scenes. If you or your kids have visited Marvel through the movies, there is no way you won’t love what the producers of the game have done.

The Challenge

because of the selection of scenes from the various films, the story which forms the background of the game may feel disjointed, especially for you, if you’re a fan and have followed all the movies sequentially.

At all levels, the players are expected to create their tag team duos from the more than 200 unlockable characters from Marvel. Although, it is possible and straightforward to switch between characters and match any pair you or your kid deem appropriate. And yes, there is a coop option for you and your kid, or if your friend wants to join in. But sadly, while in coop mode, certain scenes leave out a player when a cinematic battle is involved or is to be fought.

The Marvel Avengers combat is quite simple, and it is limited to one attack and then to another special attack. Lego Avengers attempts to improve on this and has introduced unique moves that allow two characters to combine their skills. Consequently, Thor is able to strike Captain America’s shield with his hammer to create a huge shock wave. And Scarlet Witch may also shake the Hawkeye arrows, and they are sent in all directions. There are lots of these combinations you’d be discovering. The beauty and uniqueness of the movie tend to dwindle as you pair with other less known characters.

There is no much incentive, however, for using these moves, except for the little visual flair you’d enjoy while it lasts.

Because of this simplicity, the Lego Avengers feel quite breezy and light. Despite that, however, there is still an undeniable fun as you conquer the many levels of the game. There are several propulsive and exhilarating action sequences packed in the game. This includes battling on a moving train, -which is a scene taken from Captain America: The First Avenger, and the long section set in the fight against Chitauri on the streets of New York.

The Concept/Strategy

The strategy is simple, as the various levels strike a balance between the main objectives and exploration. The main stage in New York City, which represents an open world that’s full of side tasks and missions to accomplish. There are quite a number of other places too where you can wander and explore. Locations such as the Stark Tower, the SHIELD base, and of course, Asgard.

The mechanics of the game are simple and will be familiar to every Lego game player: hitting things, fighting bad guys, and, of course, building.

What’s good

The marvel avengers’ campaign is Brilliant and well-paced.

Abundant gags and incredible set pieces.

Coop play with the new mechanics.

There’s a lot to be seen, explored and collected.

Lovely coop moves.

What’s bad

The old formula needs to be refreshed -it’s not getting improved on enough.

The audio is inconsistent.

The storyline might be disjointed in a bid to bring in various films.

A coop partner is left out in some of the missions.

Conclusion

This is a beautiful Marvel Avengers game. Despite some of the challenges or cons, like the annoying audio issue, it is packed with fun, lots of things to collect and think about. You’d enjoy the game, although it may not be in the ranks of the Lego superheroes or Lego dimension. But this, to a large extent, is packed with lovely spectacles and humor.
